Hearing on Sufiyas bail plea deferred

Kochi, Tuesday, December 22, 2009: The Ernakulam Sessions Court has deferred the bail petition of Sufiya Maudani, the tenth accused in the Kalamassery bus torching case.

The earlier bail plea moved before Alwaye Judicial First Class Magistrate Court was rejected following which Sufiya was arrested on Thursday.

Sufiya was arrested from her residence shortly after the Kerala High Court dismissed her anticipatory bail application in connection with the burning of a Tamil Nadu bus in the state in September 2005.

Sufiya was named as the tenth accused by the Kerala police recently after the interrogation of suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba militant T Nazir, who was picked up by the Bangladesh Rifles along with an associate and handed over to Indian security agencies.

Yesterday, Assistant commissioner of police, Thrikakkara, PM Varghese, who is investigating the case, had stated in his affidavit that Sufiya was the main conspirator behind the bus torching case., while responding to a PIL seeking to hand over all terror-related cases to the National Investigation Team.

Meanwhile, hospital authorities have informed that, Sufiya’s health condition is stable now, the gynecology department would subject Sufiya for further medical examination.
