Heavy rain lashes Kerala; houses damaged   Heavy

Thiruvananthapuram, Sunday 13 June 2010: Heavy to very heavy rain disrupted traffic and damaged many houses in different parts of the State on Sunday.

Coastal areas of Beemapally, Poonthura in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kodungalloor in Thrissur district, Eravipuram in Kollam district, Purakkad in Alappuzha district, Ponnani in Malappuram district and Mulamthuruthy in Ernakulam district faced sea turbulence. Several houses in Poonthura- Beemapally sector in Thiruvananthapuram were destroyed in sea turbulence.

About 50 families have been shifted to safer places in Thrissur district
Landslide was reported from Idukki and Kottayam. Mass destruction of houses and agricultural crops added to the misery as rain continued to bucket down for the continuous third day today.

Kozhikode:

Many parts of the Kozhikode district were affected by floods as heavy rain showers continue. Two flights scheduled to land in Karipur Airport were re routed to Nedumbassery Airport due to bad weather and poor visibility.

The flights from Doha and Sharjah have been re routed to Nedumbassery Airport. The flight scheduled to depart to Dubai Airport from Karipur AP last night is still grounded due to bad weather.

Seven boats were washed away form Beypore port due to heavy rain.
