Illegal assets: Vigilance for Thachankary’s prosecution  

Thrissur, Monday, December 20, 2010: The Thrissur Vigilance Additional Legal Advisor has requested the State government for prosecuting suspended IG, Tomin J Thachankary for allegedly earning assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Legal advisor has recommended for prosecution of Thachankary, following a report that he had earned illegal assets worth more than one crore rupees.

Investigation reports reveal that Thachankary had bought the land at a high price but had registered it at a low price in the land deed.

on December 2nd, dismissed the plea filed by IG Tomin J Thachankary against his suspension order for conducting a controversial foreign trip without the consent of the government. HC rejected the plea by opining that an officer under scanner could not be taken back to service.

The government had earlier suspended Tomin J. Thachankary from the post of Kannur South range IG. National Investigation Agency (NIA) is presently probing the case charged against Thachankary on his alleged foreign trip.

Tomin J. Thachankary was suspended from the post of Kannur South range IG on April 17th 2010. Thachankary was earlier removed from the post of the IG following a controversial foreign trip. Tomin J Thachankary was caught up in controversy over his alleged Gulf trip without government’s consent. The CM himself, during his program in Kannur, had noticed his absence.

later asked Vigilance ADGP Sibi Mathews to probe into Thachankary’s foreign trip, following charges that he had not taken prior sanction from the government as per the service rules. However, Thachankary denied flouting guidelines. DGP who later investigated the controversy himself, came up in support of the ADGP’s report which asserted Thachankary flouted guidelines.

The suspension order was issued as per the order of Chief Minister V.S Achuthanandan. Achuthanandan had demanded that the IG must not only be suspended but he must also be given transfer. The Chief Secretary signed on the suspension order following the demand of Chief Minister.
