Srinagar, Friday 12 Sept 2008: One person has killed and several injured as thousands of protesters held pro-independence rallies in Indian-administered Kashmir, police said
Indefinite curfew was imposed in the town, 56 km from Srinagar.
The police in Srinagar said a group of people turned violent when they came out of the local mosque after offering Friday prayers.
One person has died in this incident and twelve others are wounded. Seven of the injured persons have been taken to Srinagar hospitals for specialized treatment, police official said in Srinagar.
The joint co-ordination committee of both the separatist Hurriyat groups had asked the people to hold peaceful protests across the Valley after the Friday prayers.
