Thiruvananthapuram, Friday, January 6, 2012: The Sanjay Garg Committee, which probed allegations against the CPM-controlled Priyaram Medical College, has found grave lapses in management and Government quota admissions.
The report found irregularities in admissions in 2007-08 and 2008-09. The committee, headed by Finance (expenditure) Secretary Sanjay Garg, had Medical Education Director V. Geetha and Co-operative Registrar K. V. Suresh Kumar as members.
The committee found that the NRI quota had been enhanced without prior Government sanction. As per the report, 11 students who had not cleared the entrance test were admitted to the college in 2007-08.
Admissions to PG courses were held in violation of MCI norms. As per norms, 50 per cent of the seats for PG have to be earmarked to Government quota. However, in some academic years, not a single seat was earmarked for Government quota.
