Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Tuesday 26 May 2009: The southwest monsoon has further advanced over some more parts of south Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, some parts of coastal Karnataka, most parts of Bay of Bengal, entire northeastern states, some parts of north coastal Orissa and most parts of West Bengal & Sikkim. The northern limit of monsoon passes through Lat. 13.0ºN/Long 60.0ºE, Lat. 13.0ºN/Long 70.0ºE, Mangalore, Dharampuri, Chennai, Lat. 15.0ºN/Long 83.0ºE, Lat. 17.0ºN/Long 85.0ºE, Paradeep, Balasore, Bankura and Gangtok, the India Meteorological Department mentioned. (For the period of May 26- May 29).

The severe cyclonic storm “AILA” over Gengetic west Bengal close to Kolkata has moved further northwards and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of today, the May 26, 2009 over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal close to Malda. The system is likely to move in a near northerly direction and weaken into a deep depression during next six hours. The highest maximum temperature of 45.0°C was recorded at Barmer (Rajasthan).

Heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls (=25 cm.) is likely over Sub-Himalayan, west Bengal, Sikkim during next 24 hours.
