New Delhi, Saturday, August 21, 2010: The Union ministry of Environment and Forests and has decided to move to Supreme Court against the Kerala High Court’s verdict, staying the Centre’s order for closure of Kandal park in Pappinisseri. This decision was taken in the High-level committee meeting held by the Environment and Forest ministry.
The Eco tourism society has decided to reopen the controversial Kandal park from tomorrow, on the basis of the High Court’s verdict. The Court has also directed the Society not to carry out any land deals and construction woks in connection with the park.

The Kandal Park in Pappinisseri has closed following the notice from the Kannur ADM (Additional District Magistrate) at 4pm on July 19.The State government has taken this decision following the Centre?s demand. Centre had earlier expressed that the park was functioning after violating rules.
Chief Minister V.S Achuthanandan informed the Assembly that he had given instructions to the Kannur District collector for the closing down of the park. It is believed that the Eco Tourism society officials would go legally against the State government?s decision to close the park.
The Union Ministry for Forest and Environment had asked the State government for a closure of the park alleging that the park functioning was a pure violation of Coastal Conservation Act.
