Kannur police seek custody of Nazir, aid

Kannur, Thursday, December 03, 2009: Kannur town police have moved an appeal before Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court seeking the custody of Tadiyantavide Nazir and his accomplice, Shamaz, in two major cases in the state.

The police have seeked production warrant against both of them in connection with Kalamassery bus torching case, Nazir is also wanted by Kerala police in connection to ex-CM assassination plot.

Nazir, who hails from Kannur district of Kerala, is alleged to have recruited several Muslim youth from the state to volunteer for jihad training in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan. Nazir started out as a follower to former Islamic Sevak Sangh(ISS) leader and now PDP chief Abdul Nasser Madhani.

He then went on to dealing in fake currency minted in Pakistan, before graduating to level of a key recruiter of LeT cadres from south India. Besides several terror and murder cases, Nazir is wanted for plotting to assassinate the then E K Nayanar to avenge the arrest of his leader Madhani.

According to the Home Secretay, Nasir and Shafaq suspected operatives were arrested at the Meghalaya border. Sources also said that Nazir is allegedly the mastermind of LeT in South India and were behind the serial blasts in Bangalore.

Home Minister had on Wednesday said that the Government would ask the Central Government to hand over Lashkar-e-Toiba extremists Thadiyanteyavide Nazeer and Shabhas to the state.
