Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday, June 13, 2009: As the maintenance work at the Idukki power project is nearing completion and the power generation is most likely to begin from today, the KSEB has decided to withdraw the half- an-hour temporary load shedding in the state, as a result there wouldn’t be any load shedding from today.

The restrictions were imposed in view of the shortfall in power generation due to the maintenance work being carried out on the control valve of the Idukki hydel station, forcing a 10-day shut down.
No maintenance work has been carried out since the Idukki hydel project was commissioned in 1976.

The move to carry out maintenance work on the penstock and butterfly valve was taken in the light of the Panniar tragedy.
