Ludhiana, Monday, January 23, 2012: Kerala won the overall team title for the 15th consecutive year in the 55th National schools athletic meet held at the Guru Nanak stadium in Ludhiana on Monday.
Kerala has secured its first position with 266 points and a total of 69 medals including 29 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 15 bronze medals. Kerala bagged six gold medals on the concluding day.
Meanwhile Punjab claimed the second spot. Sinju Prakash bagged gold and set a new national record in senior girl’s pole vault event. While Kerala’s 4*400 metre boys, girls relay team also won gold.
It could have been a far better outing for Kerala but for the extreme cold conditions which prevailed all through the day and came in the way of its athletes from performing at their best.
