Idukki, Monday, August 16, 2010: State Forest Minister Binoy Viswam today affirmed that notification of 17,066 acres of land in Munnar as ‘reserve forest’ would soon be completed. He has said this while talking to media persons after a special LDF meet held here in the evening.
Minister Visawam also assured that the notification of land regarding the same would be done within the tenure of this LDF government. Adding a note, he said the declaration of reserve forest was a political decision regarding LDF and they would go ahead with it.
At the same time, CPM District Secretary M.M Mani , said that they would initiate strong protests against the government if ‘Munnar township’ was not implemented.
The meeting came up heavily against Chief Minister V.S Achuthanandan for refusing the renewal of the ‘Munnar ordinance’. It was also decided to send a sub-committee of LDF
The stand-off between V.S. Achuthanandan and the Revenue Department over the ordinance to set up a township at Munnar by taking over land currently in the possession of Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company (formerly Tata Tea) had led to an uncertainty in the matter in the last week.
