New Delhi, Thursday, June 03, 2010: K.G Balakrishnan, former Chief Justice of Supreme Court would be sworn in as National Human Rights Commission Chief on Monday. President Prathibha Patil has officially signed the papers for appointing Justice K.G Balakrishnan as the chief of HRC.
The High level meeting headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had recommended K.G Balakrishnan, for the post of Human Rights Commission chief. The High-level meet suggested Balakrishnan’s name to President Prathibha Patil. Home Minister P.Chidambaram, Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Sushamma Swaraj, Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Arun Jaitley were present for the high level meet.
