Thiruvananthapuram, Friday 25 December 2009: One person was today killed and eight others injured in a clash between two groups in a village on Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, about 25 km from here.
Police said the deceased was identified as Arulappan Singaravel, a native of Kollangode near Pozhiyur, a fishing hamlet close to Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.
He succumbed to his injuries at the Medical college hospital here. A heavy contingent of police including Rapid Action Force has been deployed in the area, and the situation was under control, police said.
A police team from Kanyakumari district is also camping on the border. Police said the clash was sparked by a dispute over using water from a tap by some fishermen living on the Kerala side.
