Kochi IPL: Tharoor denies calling meet

Thiruvananthapuram, Sunday, October 03, 2010: Shashi Tharoor MP today denied calling any meet to sort out the differences of opinion in connection with the Kochi IPL team. Meantime, he told reporters that he had held discussions with the shareholders of the Kochi Team via phone.

He said, “I don’t have any connections with the Kochi IPL team. I just wanted to solve the differences that cropped up between the shareholders. I’m intervening in the issue, as I wanted a team for the state. Youngsters should get a chance to play for the team and they shouldn’t lose it in the name of all these differences.”

Earlier report

The chief patron of Kochi IPL team and former minister of state for external affairs Shashi Tharoor takes initiative to solve the controversies the team is currently embroiled in.

The former union minister will hold talks with representatives of Rendezvous consortium, who owns the team, in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. It is hinted that the dispute erupted while mooting introduction of new stakeholders into the consortium.

The existence of Kochi IPL team itself is in jeopardy as clash of interest broke out between the corporates, which invested huge sums in forming the team and some stakeholders.

BCCI President Shashank Manohar had earlier issued show-cause notice to Kochi IPL team and warned of dropping it from IPL season four unless a proper explanation is rendered.
