Kochi: One person arrested for defrauding Rs.42 lakh  

Kochi, Thursday 9 June 2011: A physical instructor of Government Polytechnic College, Kasaragod, was arrested by Kalamassery Police for cheating another person of Rs.42.25 lakh, after promising him to get the money doubled.

Santhosh Kumar, 43, of Pettah, Thiruvananthapuram and presently staying on rent at Vennala, was arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by Balachandran of Palakkad, a former Navy employee. The complaint said that the accused met Balachandran at Dubai and convinced him that he could get money doubled by two-and-a-half times in 100 days.

These transactions were made in 2009. However, the accused went into hiding after this. Those who loaned money to Balachandran lodged complaint against him in Dubai and he was jailed for that. On being released, he lodged complaint with the City Police and the accused was arrested on Wednesday. The police said the accused was on unauthorised absence from the college for a long period.
