Kochi, Thursday 13 August 2009: Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will officially launch the Janamaithri Suraksha Paddhathi, the community policing initiative, in the rural district today.
A 5-km-long human chain to be organised in Aluva town will mark the launch of the programme.
The initiative would highlight the people’s stand against terrorism, adoption of accident-prone roads, announcing of Citizen Police awards and launching of an interactive website.
Jacob Punnoose, Director General of Police; Vinson M. Paul, Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam Range; film actors Suresh Gopi, Dileep and Jyothirmayi; Miss Kerala Archana Nair and many other social and political leaders will be present.
Gracy Thomas, whose son was killed in the attack on Mumbai Taj Hotel, will be honoured at the function.
Giving details about the function here, T. Vikram, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, said that a panel of media persons has been formed to evaluate the best segment of the human chain. The entire stretch has been divided into eight segments.
As part of the road adoption programme, 47 accident- prone roads have been identified. Traffic safety programmes will be implemented in these roads with assistance from organisations like Lions’ Club and Rotary Club.
