Kollam, 08 May 2010: Twenty-eight suspected Tamil Tigers from Sri Lankans were taken into police custody in a raid from a lodge in the town, here yesterday night. They were taken into custody on the basis of secret information received by the police. Earlier the authorities had received warnings from Central Intelligence that Tamil Tigers have chosen the State as place of refuge.
Around fifty people including women and children have been staying in the lodge since two days. The police and Intelligence Bureau officials had yesterday lately interrogated the 28 men in the group at the East Police Station, headed by DySp B.Krishnakumar.
They had at first told the officials that they were Tamilians but later revealed that they were natives of Mullathieve, Srilanka. Among them Shiva Subramaniom, who knows English has told police that they were from Mullatheive and reached Chennai for his wife’s treatment, informed the authorities.
The primary report points out that they had no proper travel documents including Visa. The report says that they were heading for Australia.
