Kollam, Saturday 17 Jan 2009: Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan inaugurated the ten-day Kollam Flower Show 2009 at the Asramam Children’s Park complex on Friday evening.
Mr. Gurudasan said that under a project submitted to the Union government, an allocation of Rs.2.86 crore had been made for the renovation of the children’s park. It was in addition to the allocation of Rs.96 lakh made by the State government.
The renovated park will have a compound wall, a mandapam, a rest room, an open air auditorium, a dashing car and a family train, among other facilities.
Once these projects are completed, it will not be possible to make the park the venue for future flower shows. Therefore the City Corporation will have to identify a new location for the flower show.
The Minister said that measures were being taken to give a better projection to the eastern sectors of the district as a tourism destination.
