KTDC boat made of low quality fiber: Forensic report

Kumali, Friday, October 09, 2009: According to forensic reports, the KTDC boat, which has capsized at Thekkady, had been made of low quality fiber.

In the wake of allegations against the Forensic inquiry, the second phase of forensic investigation was carried out by Forensic department deputy director and Police academy joint director K Mohanan had found out the defect in the boat’s manufacture.

The report would be handed over to IG Sreelekha who had been leading the crime branch investigation team on the boat tragedy on Tuesday. According to report, the boat made of low quality fiber cannot resist wind. Thus there are more chances of the boat to tilt with a mild shake. The investigation had been done after the boat had been taken to the shore.

Earlier, after inspecting the site IG Sreelekha had said that the crime branch had deputed Forensic Science Laboratory director James Philipose and the investigation conducted earlier by K Mohanan were only of a preliminary nature and might have been done on the basis of the immediacy of the probe. The statement of IG had led to widespread criticism and confusion regarding the authenticity of the probe.
