Land encroachment: UDF team to visit Attappady

Thiruvananthapuram, Wednesday, July 21, 2010: The UDF team on Saturday would visit the Attappady forest area for assessing the land encroachments in the tribal lands. The opposition led by Oommen Chandy, had staged a walkout from the Assembly alleging that the government had not taken necessary steps to probe into the Sholayur, Attappadi land fraud issue.

The congress MLA tried to move an adjournment motion stating that windmill companies were encroaching upon tribal land in Attappady but the Speaker denied permission for the same.

Minister for the Welfare of Backward and Scheduled Communities A K Balan said that the Collector would conduct an enquiry regarding the issue. Strict action would be taken against the officials of Registration department if they were found guilty, affirmed Minister S Sharma.

Opposition leader asked the government to give orders to stop the functioning of windmill plant as the land encroachment in the area was confirmed. He also urged the government to let an Assembly committee conduct a detailed investigation into the issue
