high-court-med

Kochi, Monday, 15 March 2010: “There is no land available to allot the tribals of Wayanad”, government informed the High Court.
Cases are registered and no decisions are made against the 1762 acres of surplus land acquired from the district. The Deputy Collector submitted the report on the petition regarding the surplus land in the possession of Harrisons Malayalam Limited.

Among the 100 acres of land acquired, 52 acres had already been distributed among the tribal. Some land had also been allotted for public needs. Government had granted permission to give land for the landless tribals for their rehabilitation. Also instructions have been given to the Thahasildars to recover lands. It would take an additional time of one year for this, they added.

Among the 1845 acres of land under Harrison Malayalam estate, 135 acres belongs to Forest’s land. The dispute regarding this matter is under the consideration of the High Court.
