LDF decision on Rajya Sabha seat today

Thiruvananthapuram, Thursday 11 March 2010: The State committee of the ruling LDF is meeting here today to arrive at a decision on sharing the Rajya Sabha seats. The alliance is sure of winning two of the three seats that go to the polls this month.

The meeting has assumed significance with the RSP staking claim to the second seat and the CPM insisting that the seat was rightfully its.

The CPM was ready to give a seat to the RSP in the last round of RS polls, but this was not taken by the latter owing to inner-party conflicts. However, this time round, the RSP has staked claim to the second seat. If the party gets the seat, it would field RSP general secretary T.J. Chandrachoodan.

The CPM leadership had held discussions with RSP leaders here the other day to convince them why the party deserved to have the second seat as well, but in vain.

If the alliance were to go merely by the numerical strength of each of its constituents, the CPM has a definite claim to the seat. But the RSP leadership is not inclined to see it as a mere numerical equation that would throw up a result in favour of the CPM.
