Kollam, Saturday, October 16, 2010: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan reiterated that the CPI (M) has never criticised Catholic Church. Pinarayi added that the CPM would not oppose the catholic churches.“ Some Priests fell into the trap of the UDF leadership and lined with them to ruin the CPI (M). This is against the prevailing opinion. We agree with the Pastoral Council resolution that Church should refrain from politicsâ€.
He pointed out that Cardinal Mar Varki Vithayathil had said in his address at the Pastoral Council that Church should give prominence to service and power should not be the aim.
The CPI (M) state secretary ruled out any ties with Jamaat -E- Islami.
We are not connected with them in any way†- clarified Vijayan. Regarding Manjalamkuzhi MLA, Vijayan opined “ Let him experiment. He is an independentâ€.
