New Delhi, Friday 26 Sept 2008: Police on Friday recovered crude bombs planted under a bridge on National Highway-4 in Sanganahalli in Dharwad district of Karnataka. According to reports, three boxes of explosives, a gas cylinder and a gelatine stick, were placed under the bridge on the important highway to Pune.
The police have cordoned off the local area and have begun combing operation to nab the suspects.
Acting swiftly, bomb disposal squads were requisitioned from Belgaum – the team has now reportedly diffused the bombs
“Terrorists are trying to make Hubli, Dharwad, Coastal areas and Bangalore as their homes”, Yeddyurappa said.
One of the busiest highways in India, National Highway 4 is a major route between Mumbai and Chennai, passing through Pune, Hubli-Dharwad and Bangalore. Its also part of Indian government’s Golden Quadrilateral project.
