New Delhi, Tuesday, January 04, 2011: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram today informed that he had not got any intimation from State Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan demanding a CBI probe into Inter state lottery case. Speaking to the reporters here, Chidambaram stated that it was the Personnel Ministry’s duty to take action if a complaint was send in this regard.
Chidambaram further added that the letter requesting a CBI probe into the lottery case, must be send to the Personnel Ministry and not to the Central Home Ministry. While the next Polit Bureau meeting that would be held on January 12th would discuss on Achuthanandan’s stand demanding a CBI probe into the Inter State lottery case.
Achuthanandan had come under heavy criticism for his stand demanding a CBI probe into the lottery issue. Several leaders including Finance Minister TM Thomas Issac had raised criticism against CM’s stand in the issue.
According to the news reports, Achuthanandan had on December 26th appealed to the Centre for initiating a CBI probe into the Inter state lottery case. In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Achuthanandan had sought permission for a CBI probe into the lottery case.
He wanted the economic deals connected with the lottery to be probed by the National Investigation Agency or the Central Bureau of Investigation. The Chief Minister pointed out that according to official information, business worth Rs.80,000 crore had been conducted during the last four years.
