Kochi, Thursday, September 02, 2010: The Division Bench of the Kerala High Court would today hear on the Megha distributor’s plea filed against the single bench verdict, restricting the draw of a particular lottery to one per week. The appeal alleged that the Single bench order, restricting the draw to one per week for the lotteries was merely a breach of Central lottery Act.
A Division bench headed by Jus. Thottathil Radhakrishnan would hear on the plea on Thursday. Megha distributors, the wholesale dealers of the inter-State lotteries like Sikkim, Manipal had on Wednesday filed a plea in the Division bench of High Court. The agency in the plea urged the Court to stay its earlier order restricting the draw of a particular lottery to one per week.
The agency mentioned that they had earlier filed the plea regarding advance tax payments, however, the Court considered the factors outside its limits and restricted the draw to one per week and 6 bumper draws in a year, for a particular lottery.
Megha distributors have also stated that the Court never sought an explanation from the Centre in this regard, who was the concerned authority. Also explanation was not sought from the concerned State governments of the lotteries.
