Lottery scam: Chennithala calls for judicial probe  

Thiruvananthapuram, Friday, July 30, 2010: KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala today told that a judicial probe must be conducted on the controversial lottery scam. Finance minister T. M Thomas Issac had yesterday informed that the commercial taxes assistant commissioner, K.A Abdullah has been suspended for favoring inter-state lorries.

The minister informed this at a press meet and said that the commissioner has been suspended for causing a delay in taking action against lottery companies, for lapses in paying tax. Thomas Isaac said they would seek an explanation from the governments of Sikkim and Bhutan to know whether the lotteries are official ones. The State government had initiated for a probe regarding this matter after the Oppositions’ demand in the State assembly on the lottery scam.

The Opposition had on July 27th staged a walk out from the Assembly as a protest, alleging that the State government was supporting the lottery mafia in the State.
