Maudani visits Sufiya in hospital

Eranakulam, Monday 21 December 2009: PDP chairman Abdul Nasar Maudani today visited his wife, Sufiya Maudani, who was shifted from the Ernakulam sub-jail to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital here on Sunday night after she complained of backache.

Maudani obtained permission from the authorities to visit his wife with the couple’s two sons and six other relatives apart from four leaders of the PDP, including PDP working chairman Poonthura Siraj. Maudani, who was taken in a wheelchair to the special room in Ward Five of the hospital where his wife was admitted, spent about 45 minutes with her before returning to Kollam.

Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, Maudani said his wife’s health was poor and that she was under great mental stress. However, he did not consult the doctors treating her, he said, adding that reports of an MRI scan conducted on her was awaited.

Stating that it was immaterial whether the pain was extreme or low when the entire episode was about harassment, Maudani said the real character of those who were designated by a political party to degrade him and his family was now out in the open, that too in a humiliating manner.

“Those who conspired to destroy me, my family and my organisation, are now slowly beginning to see that it is actually God who makes the decisions,” he said, adding that he would continue to fight legally.
Sufiya had requested him to put off his proposed hunger strike in front of the Secretariat till a decision on her bail application came.

She made the request pointing out that the strike, which would include their two sons as well, would put emotional stress on her. A decision on this would be taken later, he said.
