Police let down by please-All Kodiyeri
The drama over the arrest of PDP chairman Abdul Nasser Madhani concludes that Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is a pragmatic politician but not a good Home Minister. The inordinate delay in arresting Madhani was the result of Kodiyeri’s efforts to protect his party’s vote bank interests at the cost of the morale of the police force that he leads. In the fag end he was able to please both his party bosses as well as ‘vote bank friend’ Madhani. Had the police gatecrashed into Anwarsseri and facilitated Madhani’s arrest, it would have become another opportunity for the Opposition UDF to shed crocodile tears in the name of Madhani and attack the CPM-led LDF.
