Maudani’s arrest: PDP to hold meeting in Anwarsseri  

Anwarsseri, Monday, August 16, 2010: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today informed that they would hold a meeting in Anwarsseri at 11 am today, to discuss matters regarding PDP Chairman Abdul Nazar Maudani’s arrest. The main topic of discussion in the meeting would be the surrender of Maudani before Court.

The PDP leadership also informed that they wouldn’t resist Maudani’s arrest. Meanwhile a team of Bangalore police officials had proceeded from Thiruvananthapuram to Kollam for arresting Maudani. Alok Kumar, Bangalore Joint commissioner and investigating officer of Bangalore blast case Omkarayya are among the top officials in the Karanataka police.

They are likely to have consultations with DGP Jacobe Punnoose in this regard. Meanwhile more police force has been deployed in Anwarssery, for the peaceful execution of the arrest warrant.

Meanwhile DGP Jacob Punnoose informed that the Kollam SP has been directed to render all help to execute the arrest. Alok Kumar would be having discussion with SP before moving to Anwarssery.

Maudani on Sunday said he would surrender before the nearest court soon to avoid law and order problems that the police action could trigger. Stating that he would announce the date of his surrender on Monday, the wheelchair-bound Maudani at the same time said he was ready to be arrested by the police in connection with the case in which he is an accused.

Maudani said he “preferred surrendering before the nearest court in the coming days” as he was keen to avoid law and order problems that his arrest could trigger.

Maudani also said his health condition was poor and that his arrest in such a state could cause severe difficulties to him. At the same time, he said, if police wanted, they could come and arrest him.

Appearing before the media for the first time after prohibitory orders were imposed in and around his camp, Maudani, swearing by his faith, reiterated he had no role whatsoever in the Bangalore blasts claiming he was “falsely implicated” by Karnataka police.

After setting the stage for the arrest of Abdul Nazar Maudani, PDP chairman, the state police today have send notice to him seeking co-operation in executing the arrest warrant. The notice also demand, those staying illegally in Anwarsseri to move out.
The police are awaiting a nod from the political leadership in this regard. Anwarssery, the camp place of the PDP chairman is now completely under police control after prohibitory order was declared on Saturday.

Madhani has been already informed of the arrest warrant officially and hints are that the warrant would be executed after the peaceful conduct of Independence Day celebrations. Madhani has expressed his willingness to yield for arrest if the Bangalore police wanted him in custody.

Chief Minister V.S Achuthanandan today reportedly told that the PDP Chairman Abdul Nazar Muadani must yield for arrest following his involvement in the Bangalore blast case. V.S affrimed that Maudani must abide by the law and the State government was helpless regarding this issue.

The Muslim leaders had met the CM urging to delay the Leader’s arrest till the Supreme Court pronounces its verdict on the anticipatory bail plea regarding the Bangalore blast case. The Muslim leaders had urged that Maudani should not be arrested during the Ramdan month.

CM asserted that the Karnataka police was arresting Maudani for his involvement in a case concerning the Karnataka State and that was helpless for him. Home Minister had earlier stated that it is for the Karnataka police to decide on the time and mode of arresting Maudani.

Speaking to reporters here Kodiyeri pointed out that the arrest warrant lies in the hands of the Karnataka police and the Kerala police has no role in the case. The state police have the duty to ensure the stage for arrest and it has been ensured.

Kodiyeri informed that the situation in Anwarssery is totally under control.
The police have ensured that no law and order problem is created in the state as part of the arrest. “The Karnataka police can take appropriate decision at appropriate time” Kodiyeri added.

A tense situation is still prevailing in Anwarsseri and nearby places, following the declaration of the prohibitory order by the Kollam District collector. A large battalion of police has been deployed in these areas. The prohibitory order under was declared under the IPC section 144 at Sasthamkotta and Mainagapally panchayats of Anwarsseri.

A large number of PDP activists from various parts of the State are thronging to Anwarsseri, following the progressive move by the police department regarding the leader’s arrest. Police had yesterday evacuated the protestors from premises of Maudani’s residence. The police used tear gas against the protestors and they in turn pelted stones at them.

As a precautionary measure against the arrest, Maudani has filed for an anticipatory bail in the Supreme Court against the Karnataka High Court’s decision to dismiss his bail plea. Maudani informed that the Bangalore blast case registered against him was totally fabricated.
