MDMK protest disrupts traffic between Kerala and TN   MDMK

Thiruvananthapuram, Friday 28 May 2010: Vehicular traffic between Kerala and Tamil Nadu was disrupted for about two hours today as MDMK workers organised road blocks at key border points to protest the LDF-led government’s move to build a new dam at Mullaperiyar.

Bus services and goods movement were seriously affected between Palakkad and Coimbatore, Parassala and Nagercoil and Kumali and Cumbom as MDMK workers blocked roads in response to a protest call given by their leader, Vaiko.

Addressing protesters at Valayar near Palakkad, Vaiko came down on Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran for their resolve to build a new dam in place of the existing structure at Mullaperiyar.

He said the protest was not directed against the people of Kerala but the government’s policy to “build the new dam and deny water to Tamil Nadu”.
