Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday, July 03, 2010: The mortal remains of veteran music director M.G Radhakrishnan, who died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, were consigned to flames at the funeral in the Thycaud crematorium.
The funeral was carried out with full State honours after rich tributes were paid to the departed soul in the presence of a large gathering. Thousands from different walks of life paid homage, to M.G Radhakrishnan.
His body was kept at Swathi Tirunal Music College for paying their last respects to their beloved composer. Chief Minister, other Ministers, Speaker, Musicians, film fraternities also paid homage to the great musician.
Radhakrishnan had been admitted at a private hospital one week earlier where he succumbed to death due to liver ailment.
Born on August 8, 1937 at Haripad in Alappuzha to Malabar Gopalan Nair and Kamalaskhi Amma, he entered the film world as a music composer for the film Thambu in 1978.
He has bagged Kerala State Film Award for best music director for the film Achaneyanenikkishtam in 2001 and Ananthabhadram in 2005. His brother M. G. Sreekumar is an Indian playback singer in Malayalam and Tamil cinema.
Radhakrishnan was well known for his music composition for light music while he was working in Akashvani, Trivandrum. He joined the All India Radio in 1962.
He rendered music to songs in about 40 films, including Thakara, Ananthabhadram, Kaatu Vannu Vilichappol, Sarvakalaashala, Jaalakam, Nombarathi Poovu, Vellanakalude Naadu, Adwaitham, Manichithrathazhu, Chenkol and Ammayane Satyam.
