Thiruvananthapuram, Thursday 12 November 2009: Minister for Education and Culture M.A. Baby called upon students to learn about the functioning of democratic systems across the globe.
He was speaking after inaugurating a performance of ‘Youth Parliament,’ by the winners of the previous year’s competition. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar presided over the function.
A 12-member team from Cherthala Government Girls Higher Secondary School that won the competition last year involving schools from 37 educational districts across the State delivered an inspired performance of the House in session, complete with acrimonious debates and walkout by Opposition members.
The session began with a policy declaration by the president, followed by an oath-taking ceremony were newly-elected members were sworn in.
The question hour session saw a heated exchange of arguments and accusations between the members of the ruling front and the Opposition.
The war of words culminated in a walkout by the Opposition over the tardy rehabilitation measures initiated by the government in the wake of an earthquake in Bihar.
