Thiruvananthapuram, Wednesday, 28 April 2010: Centre decided its delegates for the Mullaperiyar five membered empowered Committee constituted by the Supreme Court, at New Delhi. Former Secretary of Water Resources Department C.D Thatae, D.K Mehtha , Former engineer of Central Water Commission are declared the representatives.

The Apex Court had appointed the former Supreme Court Justice AS Anand as the head of the empowered committee on 18th February , which would look into all issues, including the safety aspects of the dam, raising the water level beyond 136 ft and Kerala’s demand for a new dam

Earlier the five-judge Constitution Bench comprising Justices D. K. Jain, B. Sudershan Reddy, Mukundakam Sharma, R. M. Lodha and Deepak Verma had decided to appoint a five member committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, two technical experts not connected with this dispute appointed by the Centre, and two members from each Kerala and Tamil Nadu to sort out the row.The term of the committee would be six months.
