Kannur, Thursday, January 28, 2010: An Azhikode native, who is allegedly accused of murdering his wife was arrested at Sharjah in the UAE yesterday.
Shammi Kumar (28) was arrested in Sharjah when he arrived a day after his wife Ramya was found dead in mysterious circumstances on January 22 in a lodge at Payyanur, about 40 km from here, IGP (North) Tomin J Thachankary, quoting Sharjah police, said.
The woman was found hanging inside a room, door of which had been locked from outside, he said.
Investigations revealed that Kumar had left for his work place through Mangalore airport on January 23 after dropping off his younger daughter at his wife’s house at Kattampally near here.
“On spotting him back at Sharjah, his acquaintance, who received information from Ramya’s relatives about her death, informed police and he was arrested.
IG Tomin Thachankary also informed that that this was the first arrest made after the extradition treaty between India and UAE was signed. Steps have been taken in order to bring the accused in Kerala.
