Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday 30 January 2010: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the State Forensic Science Laboratory would be provided narco analysis facility soon.

Speaking at a function organised to felicitate Forensic Sciences Laboratory director James Philipose, who received a Central government award, Kodiyeri said the government was discussing the matter with the Health Department. Narco analysis is considered an effective investigation tool for eliciting truth from subjects who are incapable or unwilling to provide accurate information. It involves careful administration of certain drugs.

Kodiyeri urged the Police Department to use scientific methods and seek forensic expertise to investigate crimes. He said the government was against the use of third degree methods for eliciting forced confessions from suspects.
