Vasudevan earned his Ph.D. in structural engineering in early 1990’s from IIT, Madras. After working in Malaysia for few years, he joined the Civil Engineering department at the University of Kentucky in Fall of 1998 as a Research Faculty. He worked as a design engineer for Athwale Constructions in Arizona and California from 2000 to 2004. He obtained his P.E. license in California in 2004. He returned to India in 2005 to head the structural group of Consulting Engineering Services. He had designed many important landmark bridges in India, including the Panipat bridge in Delhi and many other bridges.

Although he was heading the South Indian operations of one of the biggest Civil Engineering companies in Asia, he was always available for others. He would never say ‘no’ to any request from others and he was always willing to help others.

Vasudevan was shy and humble. He had the best qualifications that one could ask for. He was extremely knowledgable in his field and had all the technical information on his finger tips.

We were fortunate to have come in contact with K.Vasudevan.

All of us will miss him.

(This Obituary was written on behalf of friends of K.Vasudevan, Ph.D., P.E. by Professor Prasada Rao, who is currently the Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department at California State University, Fullerton)

We knew him personally and his family when he was in Phoenix Arizona. A special rare gem of a human being, very satvic and spiritual minded. A gentle humble soul. He passed on the most important day of all ekasadis (Pandava Nirjala Ekadasi) and this soul is surely in Vaikuntha.

Vasudevan was a rare and special personality. He has been a humble and gentle intellect. He was a good friend of mine for more than 20+ years since his graduation days. It is shocking to hear that he is no more. His demise has blunted dreams and snatched the gentle smile forever. Let us pray the almighty to provide courage and strength to his family and may his soul rest in peace.

Vasudevan is our family friend (brothers selvasekar’s college met) and known for more than 20+ years. Last year he lost his yonger (2 years) old daughter in a road accident, also his other two daughters got severally injured. He came back from that big loss and started constructing his home (halfway completed). No one can digest his demise and god should help his family to recover. I paid my last respect to see his body.

I had been closely associated with Vasu and his family since his marriage. He slowly transformed himself from an ordinary person to a divine human being. He always behaved in the most cultured way and set an example to emulate. I have never come across any other person as idealistic and polite as he was. May his soul rest in peace.

Dr. K. Vasudevan was my father’s best friend. He had been known to my father since his days at IIT Chennai. He was a loving, affectionate, humble, caring and down to earth person. He was very spiritual and had great respect for all the other fellow human beings. He would help others in all possible, permissible and righteous ways. I am very grateful and honored to have come into contact with him. I still cherish the moments I spent with him in New Delhi at his residence. He is one of our best family friends. We are still not able to digest the fact that he is not with us anymore. To us he will always be alive in our memories. He is an inspiration to all who believe in hard work as the only way to success. The almighty will definitely help his bereaved family to overcome this irreparable loss.
