New Delhi, Thursday, November 25, 2010: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has informed that a group of delegates would visit the endosulfan hit areas in Kasargod. NHRC would also ensure whether solatium was provided for all the endosulfan victims in the district.
The NHRC would also seek more details from the State government regarding the harmful effects of endosulfan. The Cabinet meeting had decided to seek the Centre’s aid of Rs 100 crore for the rehabilitation of the endosulfan victims on Kasargod. The cabinet has also decided to provide free ration for the victims.
Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan had on Tuesday informed that the government would provide a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the endosulfan victims in the State. He said that a moratorium would be announced to clear the debts of victims of the endosulfan.
An all-party delegation would meet Prime minister Manmohan Singh with the demand to ban the pesticide in the whole country. The meeting also decided to build and distribute houses to the homeless in the affected areas.
