Thiruvananthapuram, Wednesday 07 October 2009: A first-year student of the general nursing course at the CSI College of Nursing at Karakkonam, near Neyyattinkara, in the suburbs of the city, died after she fell from the fourth floor of the hospital building on the campus on Tuesday evening.
Greeshma S. Shankar, 18, a resident of Keezharoor, was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital in the city with serious injuries. She died at around 10.20 p.m.
A spokesperson of the medical college hospital said the post-mortem examination would be conducted on Wednesday. A police team inspected the accident spot. However, the police have not confirmed the cause or circumstances that led to the incident which took place at about 6.30 p.m.
Relatives of the victim told presspersons at the hospital that Greeshma, a hostelier, had joined the college only a few days ago. They said she had called up her parents on Tuesday afternoon and asked them to bring Rs.3,000 and some food.
Greeshma’s uncle Jnanasheelan said that her father had tried to visit her at the hostel on Monday but was denied permission to do so by the warden.
