Vandiperiyar, Saturday, January 15, 2011: The preliminary report submitted by Idukki District Collector on Sabarimala stampede suggests that the tragedy occurred when an auto and jeep overturned.
Both the vehicles were filled with the devotees. Initially, the fully packed auto overturned after it lost control. While the pilgrims were trying to lift the auto, the jeep overturned, triggering the stampede.
The report was handed over to Revenue Principle Secretary Nevedhitha P Haran. The autopsy report also suggests that most of the pilgrims had died of injury to their internal organs due to the stampede at Pulmedu.
