PG doctors of MCHs withdraw strike

Thiruvananthapuram, Friday, January 28, 2011: The PG doctors of the hospitals have decided to withdraw their indefinite strike following the discussions held with State Health Minister PK Sreemathy today. This decision came after the Government gave assurance to approve the demands of the PG Medical students.

The PG resident doctors began strike from Tuesday, raising various issues. Emergency services in all the five medical colleges got disrupted due to the strike. Their demands included revoking the recently hiked fee structure, increasing the stipend, providing accommodation facility for all the resident doctors on the medical college campus, providing 24-hours laboratory facilities, ensuring necessary medicines in operation theatres and sanctioning the recently stalled festival allowance.

The talks held between PG doctors and Minister P.K. Sreemathy held on Wednesday had ended on a negative note. Representatives of the Kerala Medical Post Graduates’ Association said the medicos would continue their strike as Minister could not give them any positive decision on any of the issues being raised by them.

The functioning of the MCHs across the State was paralyzed after the House surgeons also joined the strike held by PG doctors.
