Balakrishna Pillai’s jail term extended by 4 more days  

Thiruvananthapuram, Thursday, October 06, 2011: Jailed Kerala Congress (B) leader and former Minister R Balakrishna Pillai who was found guilty in connection with the phone controversy will have to spend four more days in prison.

Pillai’s jail term was extended by the state government based on a report handed over by the Jail welfare officer. Pillai who was supposed to be out of jail on January 4, 2012, will be out only on January 6.

Pillai, who was shifted to hospital for treatment a few days ago, landed in trouble after he spoke to a TV reporter about the attack on Krishnakumar, a teacher of RVHSS school managed by Pillai at Valakam in Kollam district.

Further investigation revealed that Pillai had made several outgoing calls from his mobile while he was in hospital.

Pillai was sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Supreme Court in February last in a corruption case dating to the 1980s when he was in the Congress-led UDF government.
