Kasaragod, Tuesday 16 June 2009: today said he had not given any call for a ’second liberation struggle’ against left rule.

“It is a fact that the prevailing political situation in the state warrants for a second liberation struggle. However, neither I nor the Congress has made any call for such a movement,” Chandy told reporters at Kanhangad town near here.

The people’s rejection of the policies of the CPI-M led Government in the Lok Sabha polls was a pointer and the people are ready to face such a situation, he added.

The ‘first Liberation struggle’ in the state was spearheaded by the Church and organistations like NSS and SNDP against the Communist government of 1957 led by E M S Namboodiripad.

When his attention was drawn to former Chief Minister A K Antony’s remarks that the prevailing situation did not warrant a second liberation struggle, Chandy said he could not comment on the reported statement by the senior party leader.

The decision to remove T Siddique as President of the Youth Congress was made by the organisation’s central leadership, Chandy said adding that the Congress party in the state no longer faced any factional wrangles as it had in the past and the Lok Sabha poll outcome was a pointer to the fact.

’s reported remarks that it was not easy to enforce Goonda Act in the state only indicated failure of the home department, he said.
