Thiruvananthapuram, Monday, February 07, 2011: Squarely blaming the UPA Government responsible for the unbridled price rise in the country, LDF workers today staged protest before the Central Government offices across Kerala. Inaugurating the two-day protest organised as part of the party’s national campaign, CPI-M state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said here that even as large sections of people had reeled under the impact of inflation, the Union Government was not doing anything to alleviate their sufferings. Accusing the Centre of ruining the Public Distribution System (PDS), he said on account this Kerala suffered the most as majority of people relied heavily on ration shops for their staple needs including rice. “Despited repeated plea from the state government, the Centre has declined to allot sufficient quota of food grain to the state. This has contributed to increase in prices of basic articles in the open market”, the CPI-M leader said. Protest demonstrations were organised in front of Central Government offices in district head quarters and other centres around the state. (News Agency)
