Kannur, Tuesday, 15 June 2010: Jail ADGP Alexander Jacob has today visited the Central prison here, from where two inmates had escaped on Monday, so as to evaluate the development in the probe. He would hold a discussion with the officials there and would check the stuffs including how the CCTV system had gone non-functioning at that time of escape.
Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had ordered ADGP Alexander Jacob to submit a report over the prison break incident. Five employees including the Deputy Jailer have been suspended in connection with the escape of two inmates from Central prison, here. Two Head Wardens and two Wardens included in the suspended list.
A special team headed by North Range Jail DIG Joseph Thomas would probe into the incident. The culprits who had fled from the prison are at large now and the police are after them.

Two inmates escaped from Central prison here, marking a critical security breach in the prison. One a convicted murderer in 7 cases and accused in around 17 other cases, Ripper Jayanandan (Thrissur) and the other, an accused in around 39 theft cases, Riyaz hailing from Kasargod, were the fugitives. They had managed to cut their way out from the maximum-security cell.
Both the fugitives were inmates of Block D (maximum security cell), where the criminals on grounds of serious offense were made to stay. Thadiyentvida Nazeer, an accused in terror related cases in the state, was neighbor to the cell from which the present escape was made, which makes this a much more serious breach of security.
