Pulmedu tragedy: Probe report to be submitted on Mar 31  

Thiruvananthapuram, Tuesday, February 7, 2012: Retired High Court Judge MR Hariharan Nair, enquiring into the Pulmedu tragedy in Sabarimala, will submit the probe report to State Government on March 31.

Earlier, Hariharan Nair had submitted an interim report to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy recommending measures to prevent such accidents during the pilgrim season. Two persons belonging to the medical team who were on duty at Uppupara on the day of the incident gave evidence regarding the tragedy.

The evidence collection from the drivers of the overturned vehicles, the owners of Eco Development Committee stalls and the policemen who were on duty at Uppupara have been completed. The next sittings in Thiruvananthapuram will be on February 9 and 10 and collection of evidence would end on the same day.

The stampede on January 14, 2011 had claimed 102 lives.
