Puthur custody death: CBI arrests four policemen  

Palakkad, Thursday, March 24, 2011: The CBI has today arrested four policemen including a DySP in connection with the custodial death of Sampath, the prime accused in the sensational Puthur Sheela murder case.

Those arrested are DySP CK Ramachandran Nair, South SI Unnikrishnan, North SI Ramesh and Constable Shyama Prasad.

Unnikrishnan and Ramesh are the first and second accused in connection with the custodial death of Sampath. Sampath, died in police custody on March 29, 2010.

CBI was handed over inquiry by the High court, following a complaint by Sampath’s brother. The investigation team is currently operating under the direct guidance of the HC, after the court observed serious interventions from the top level of the premier investigation agency to save the face of top police officials accused in the murder.
