Kalpetta, Monday 10 May 2010: AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will visit Kalpetta today to participate in a conference of Youth Congress delegates at the Krishna Gowder Hall at Puliyarmala here in connection with a Youth Congress membership campaign.

Party sources said Gandhi would reach a helipad at the SKMJ High School ground by a helicopter in the afternoon and be taken to the venue of the conference by car.

As many as 1,000 Youth Congress delegates, including tribal members, of the Lok Sabha constituencies in Wayanad, Malappuram, Manjeri, Kozhikode and Vadakara will participate.

The interactive session is scheduled for an hour. Security has been beefed up in the city and outskirts in view of Gandhi’s visit. A team of Special Protection Group is in control of the helipad and the Krishna Gowder Hall.

A security rehearsal was done on Sunday and police personnel had been deployed at the hall, a senior police officer said.

Around 200 police personnel would be deployed at various parts of the city. Personnel from Kannur and Kozhikode districts have also been drawn to augment the police force, the sources said.
