New Delhi, Saturday, November 21, 2009: The center has sanctioned Rs. 64.1 crore as relief to those affected by landslips, floods and heavy rain in Kerala. Rs. 61.5 would be used for rehabilitation measures and Rs. 2.5 crores would be used for supplying drinking water.
The Central Home Ministry had informed about the relief aid. However, the Centre had asked Kerala to make use of Rs. 103 crores which the Center had provided for combating natural calamities.
The announcement of the central aid had come hours after KP Rajendran, Minister for revenue department has informed that the central aid announced for combating the rain fury that lashed parts of North Kerala this year was still pending.
After going through the rain caused damages, the Central delegation had recommended the Central Home Ministry to provide 116.90 crores for the state to combat the damages it suffered following the onset of monsoon.
A ministerial- level committee comprising External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pavar and Home Minister P.Chidambaram took the final decision on the recommendation.
