Hyderabad, Friday, January 09, 2009: Former Satyam Computer chief B Ramalinga Raju is likely to be arrested today as the pressure mounts on Andhra Pradesh government to take action against him.
Meanwhile, the police may file suo moto case aganis Raju.
The disgraced former chairman of Satyam Computer Services B Ramalinga Raju could face 10-year jail and be punished with a hefty fine, some of the country’s top corporate lawyers said, as the government indicated plans to file civil and criminal action against all those who were party to duping investors in the company which is under investigation for inflating profits and falsifying financial statements.
Satyam Computer plunged into a deep crisis, as B Ramalinga Raju resigned as its Chairman after admitting to major financial wrong-doings and saying his last-ditch efforts to fill the “fictitious assets with real ones” through Maytas acquisition failed. Markets tumbled as soon as the resignation was announced. A fall of 692 pts was witnessed affecting companies shares majorly. Satyam’s share plunged over 40 per cent immediately after the announcement came.
